SEE THE HEART

Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart (1Samuel 16:7)

How often do we feel guilty for not involving God in decision making? When we are faced with a choice, the right decision we should choose is often obvious to us and to those around us. But if we forget to ask God for help to give wisdom, we can make wrong decisions.

That's what Samuel did when he was told to anoint the new king of Israel. When he saw Eliab, Jesse's eldest son, Samuel was convinced that he was the one God had chosen. Is that true? Confuse! Apparently, God chose David, the son of Jesse who was still very young. He was a man favored by God (Acts 13:22), but Samuel only saw based on external appearances.

Including God in decision-making is also a very important principle for churches. When looking for a new pastor or someone who will be involved in the ministry of the church, we often have a tendency to look only at the outward appearance of the person. We only see from the side of his preaching skills, his friendliness, and his ability to spark new ideas -- and indeed we need to see these things. But if we don't ask God to look deeper, namely the heart, we haven't looked deep enough. We can't see the heart, but God can. He knows whether someone really follows Him or not.

If you have to make a decision today, don't forget to include God -- DCE
