Let him ask in faith, nothing wavering, for he who is anxious is like a wave of the sea, being tossed about by the wind (James 1: 6)
Adoniram Judson (1788-1850) was gifted with an intelligent brain. He learned to read at the age of 3, could translate Greek at the age of 12, and enrolled at Brown University at the age of 16. There he befriended Jacob Eames, a man who rejected Bible miracles. By the time Judson graduated as a graduate in 1807, he had been so influenced by Eames that he renounced his Christian faith.
One night, while Judson was staying at a country inn, he was disturbed by the moans of a man in the next room. The next morning he asked the innkeeper about the sick man. He was told that the man had died and that his name was Jacob Eames.
The shocking coincidence, namely that he was near his friend at the moment of his death, surprised Judson. He felt compelled to seek his own soul and ask God's forgiveness for his denial of faith. From then on, he began to live for God. God led him to spearhead missionary work in Burma. At the end of his life, Adoniram was able to look back on his ministry which had planted dozens of churches and influenced thousands of people to become believers.
What influence do we have on others? Does our life encourage others to believe in the Savior, or do we make others doubt? --HDF
