The fear of God is education that brings wisdom (Proverbs 15:33)
During a violent thunderstorm, a mother put her child to sleep and turned off the light in her room. Because he was afraid of the storm, the child then asked, "Mama, will you accompany me to sleep tonight?" While hugging him, his mother replied, "I can't, honey. You have to sleep with Papa." As she was leaving her son's room, the mother heard, "You coward Papa!"
Fear is a real thing. However, it is not always negative. In 2 Chronicles 17:3-10, we read about a healthy, positive fear that prevented wars between Judah and the surrounding kingdoms. What causes this fear? It is said that "the fear from the Lord fell on all the kingdoms in the countries around Judah, so that they did not dare to make war against Jehoshaphat" (v. 10).
King Jehoshaphat wanted his people to respect and fear God. Then he made the main stipulation that they would be taught about God's Torah. He knew that if his people revered Almighty God, they would humble themselves and obey God. Doing what is right will bring prosperity to Judah and respect from the other kingdoms.
The book of Proverbs 15:33 states, "The fear of the Lord is a discipline that leads to wisdom." Those who have fear of Him will act wisely; they walk faithfully before Him keeping His commandments —AL
