Express in all things your desire to God in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6)
A rare abnormality in Judy's brain required meticulous and careful surgery. Witnessed by many doctors and medical students, the risky procedure took place in the operating room of a research hospital.
Moments before the operation began, the doctor asked, "Would you like to ask a question?" Judy replied, "Can I pray for you?" As many eyes stared at her, Judy thanked God for the skill the doctor had, asked for wisdom on her behalf, and left the course of the operation in God's hands.
How pleased God is when we shamelessly bring our troubles to Him with thanksgiving! Judy didn't ask God to save her life. He was sure that his heavenly Father knew how badly he wanted to live. He was simply grateful for the knowledge and skill that the doctor possessed, and entrusted himself to the special care of the Great Physician.
The operation was a success, and it gave Judy a chance to live longer. The doctors at the hospital saw firsthand faith in the true and living God. Paul said, "In all things express your desires to God in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving" (Philippians 4:6).
Note that God does not promise to give us everything we desire, but "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus" (v. 7). What a gift!--DJD
