SEVEN “UNITS”

And strive to keep the unity of the Spirit by the bond of peace (Ephesians 4: 3)

Have you ever had a job where you felt a strong bond with your coworkers? Perhaps you are united by a common mission, or respect for superiors, or the belief that a prosperous company will benefit everyone financially. The more things a group agrees on, the closer they unite, the better their performance will be, and the less likely there will be fights between co-workers.

Christians have an innate unifier that can make them work together in one spiritual unity. In Ephesians 4: 4-6, Paul lists seven things that make up one "unity." Reflect on how useful they are in helping any group of believers to work together on a common project:

One body-we are one family united for one purpose
One Spirit-we all have a Spirit to be our source of strengthOne
hope-we look forward to the same
futureOne God-we believe in the same ControllingOne
faith-we all believe in Jesus' sacrifice for our salvation,
One baptism—we all have a single identity, and
One God and Father—we all share the same source of existence.

What a difference it would make if we could all live in the seven “unities” -JDB

ON THE THINGS THAT UNITE, NOT THROUGH THEM
