REMOVING GUILT

I forget what is behind me and turn to what is in front of me, and run towards the goal of obtaining the prize, which is the heavenly calling from God in Christ. (Philippians 3: 13,14)

A businessman is known to like to keep almost everything that comes to his desk, especially letters. As a result, the documents in his office piled up there. Once, his secretary asked him if he could throw away old, unused documents. The businessman then reluctantly replied, "Okay, but before throwing it away, don't forget to photocopy it first, okay?"

That's more or less what some Christians do to their sins. They knew that Jesus had paid for their sins, but they still couldn't shake the guilt inside. It seems that the suffering of Jesus Christ is still lacking, so they feel they have to "donate" some of their pain by constantly lamenting the mistakes they have made. They want to continue to "replicate" their sin. Oh, how stupid!

The Apostle Paul didn't want anything like this. He fully accepted the fact that all his sins had been blotted out before God because Christ's death had completely atoned for him. The memories of the past still seemed real, but they didn't burden him anymore.

Everything that has happened to us is entered into a "recording system in our brain," called memory. However, thanks to Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, we can wisely get rid of the guilt that grips our lives --DJD
