First remove the plank from your own eye, and you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye (Luke 6:42)
Trying to change people is a full-time job. Oh, how perfect the world would be, if other people would be all we want them to be!
A plaque in our living room holds the secret key to change. The plaque is written in Dutch, but is translated as follows:
Change the World --
Start with Yourself
Most of us don't agree on that!
Jesus told a parable about man's inability to see his own faults. He said, "How can you say to your brother: Brother, let me remove the splinter that is in your eye, when you do not see the beam that is in your eye? O hypocrite, first remove the beam from your eye" (Luke 6:42) .
Easily seeing other people's faults without ever realizing one's own is not only a sign of hypocrisy. It can also remind us that maybe I am the problem in a relationship full of tension. Maybe it's my attitude that needs to change. Or, I'm the one who needs to apologize. Perhaps it is I who need a humble spirit.
Some of us have to continue to study that. We cannot change other people, but with God's help we can change our own behavior. And when our attitudes change, we'll see that other people change too --CHK

Change starts from within
and takes a lot of persistence. --Hess
