It is hard for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 19:23)
Six armed robbers broke into a safe deposit box at a London bank and stole more than seven million dollars worth of valuables. One woman, who had $500,000 worth of jewelry, lamented, "Everything I own is in there. My whole life is in that box."
Some people have taken foolish risks clinging to their possessions. They died rushing into burning houses or were killed fighting robbers armed with guns. They seem to feel that without possessions, life is meaningless. Others fall into despair, even killing themselves when their possessions are lost.
Deep attachment to wealth is very dangerous for our spiritual life. Unhealthy attachment to material things can prevent unbelievers from coming to Christ and prevent believers from living for Him. The story of a rich young man sharply illustrates this truth. The words of Jesus, "You cannot serve God and [money]" (Matthew 6:24) certainly apply to all of us.
Make a wide distance between you and your property. That way you will be spared a lot of grief. If you don't believe in Christ yet, don't make the same mistake as the rich young man. That will make you lose your soul --HVL
