He should ask for it in faith, and not worry at all, because those who worry are like the waves of the sea, tossed to and fro by the wind (James 1:6)
Adoniram Judson (1788-1850) was gifted with an intelligent brain. He learned to read at age 3, could translate Greek at 12, and enrolled at Brown University when he was 16. There he befriended Jacob Eames, a man who rejected Bible miracles. By the time Judson graduated with honors in 1807, he had been so influenced by Eames that he renounced his Christian faith.
One night, while Judson was staying at a country inn, he was disturbed by the moaning of a man in the next room. The next morning he asked the innkeeper about the sick man. He was told that the man had died and his name was Jacob Eames.
The surprising coincidence that he was near his friend at the time of his death astonished Judson. He felt compelled to search for his own soul and ask God's forgiveness for his denial of faith. From then on, he began to live for God. God led him to pioneer missionary work in Burma. At the end of his life, Adoniram could look back on his ministry which has planted dozens of churches and influenced thousands of people to become believers.
What influence do we have on others? Does our life encourage others to believe in the Savior, or do we make other people doubt? --HDF
