By faith Abraham obeyed... so he departed without knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11:8)
When Abraham was 75 years old, God called him to leave his father's land. And so, in his old age, he went to the land of Canaan. His life is uncertain, without a place to live, "not knowing where he is going" (Hebrews 11:8). Such is the story of Abraham's life.
Age brings changes and uncertainties in our life. Age is a transition from a certain past to an uncertain future. Aging can mean moving from the family home to somewhere smaller, to the daughter's home, to the retirement community, to the retirement home -- the "final resting place." Like Abraham, some of us move from location to location, always on the move, and not knowing where we are going.
However, we can feel comfortable anywhere, because our protection does not lie in our place of residence, but in God himself. We can live "in the protection of the Most High" and "dwell in the shadow of the Almighty" (Psalm 91:1). There, in His presence, under His wings, we will find refuge (verse 4). The eternal God is a shelter for us (verse 9).
Even though our place of residence in this world may be uncertain, Allah will still be our friend and companion until the days of our journey are over and we reach the true home of our hearts, which is heaven.
Before that happy day arrives, let us shine the light of God's love to other travelers -- DHR
FOR CHRISTIANS, HEAVEN IS SPELLED HOME
