WHERE IS YOUR ANCHOR?

In You, O LORD, I take refuge (Psalm 71:1)

An anonymous author makes an analogy like this: "Can you imagine in a gale a captain of a ship trying to find a place to cast anchor on his own ship. This seems preposterous, but to draw a lesson from him let us imagine it. He anchored in the bow, but the ship was still tossed about by the stormy wind. He threw the anchor on the deck, but this too failed. Finally he anchored in the luggage, but still without success.

"We see, an anchor fixed on a ship that is hit by a storm, will not solve the problem. An effective way to overcome storms and tides is to throw the anchor into the deep sea. Similarly, if a person only trusts himself, he will not will ever experience true safety and peace. His actions are as futile as the sailor who casts his anchor on his own ship. Cast your faith in God's eternal love and power. Place your faith in One who has infinite faithfulness."

This is very good advice! Remember, if we rely on our own abilities to defend against the storm, then we misplace our trust. As the psalmist did, declare that "In You, O LORD, I take refuge" (Psalm 71:1) -- RWD

WE WILL BE CALM IN A STORM IF WE ANNOW TO CHRIST, THE ROCK
