I have carried you on eagle's wings and brought you to myself (Exodus 19:4)
In a world where performance is prioritized, Christians often think that God's primary calling on their lives is to work for Him. But work for Christ must come after our devotion to Him. Oswald Chambers once reminded, The greatest competitor to devotion to Jesus is service to Him.
I faced this hidden competitor shortly after God led our family to start a ministry for street addicts. We love these young people who are searching for identity, and I devote all my attention and energy to helping them experience the saving power of Christ.
But then Derek, one of them, fled to London and was taking drugs again. This loss shocked me so much that I realized I had become so engrossed in our work that my devotion to Jesus had lost importance. God used my sadness as an eagle's wing that lifts me up from work-related activities to return to my first love, namely Jesus!
God did the same thing for the nation of Israel in the time of Moses. He freed the Hebrews from their cruel masters and carried them on eagle's wings to return to Him (Exodus 19:4).
Thank God, it wasn't long before Derek returned. I have also learned an important lesson for all followers of Jesus. God-given work should not compete with our main calling, which is devotion to Christ JEY
MANY CHRISTIANS ARE STRONG IN SERVICE
BUT WEAK IN WORSHIP
