Jesus grew and grew in wisdom (Luke 2:52)
Would you like to measure my height today?" asked Caleb, our newspaper delivery man. This isn't the first time he's asked this. A few years ago, I told you he was getting taller. Since then, we've often measured his height with a board on the wall. That's why to this day he still likes to ask me to measure his height.
Measurement can be a marker of growth. Measuring our spiritual growth is a great idea. For example: Do I make time to read God's word and talk to Him every day? Do I long to fellowship with God? What "fruits of the Spirit" appear in my life? Am I talking about Jesus to people who don't know Him? How do I use spiritual gifts? Am I giving and generous? How much have I improved in knowing God today compared to last year? These questions are good indicators for measuring spiritual growth.
A child may seem to grow up suddenly, but in fact it is a continuous process. Just as Jesus grew in His wisdom and physique, we as Christians must continue to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18). We are no longer children, but we are called to "grow up in all things toward Him Christ who is the Head" (Ephesians 4:14,15). Have you measured yourself lately? -CHK
