SHUT UP FOR A MOMENT

After the earthquake came fire. But there is no God in the fire. And after the fire came the sound of a gentle breeze (1 Kings 19:12)

In recent years, the widespread use of digital music players has damaged the hearing of many people. So far, the existence of the device and its earphones have been the object of public complaints and lawsuits. Listening to music at high volume for a long time has shown serious effects, namely damage to hearing. In some ways, listening too much can actually make the ears deaf.

We live in a world full of sound. The voice can be a voice designed to influence someone to buy something, plead, tease, and deceive. In the midst of the noise, we can easily ignore the one voice that really means a lot.

Elijah listened to Jezebel's threats and his own voice of fear, so he ran and hid in a cave. In the cave he was confronted with the sound of a strong wind, an earthquake, and fire (1 Kings 19: 11,12). Then, the cave became so quiet that the voice of God-the only voice that mattered-sounded like "the sound of a gentle breeze" (verse 12).

If we want to hear God speak to our hearts through His words, all we need to do is distance ourselves from crowds. When we learn to be silent, we will truly understand what it means to be in fellowship with a God who cares for us.

In our "quiet time" today, let's try to listen to God's voice --WEC
