IN BETWEEN WEEKS

Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as to the Lord, and not to men (Colossians 3:23).

Most Christians are not involved in a ministry professionally. They do not give sermons, sing, or work for an evangelistic agency. The days they pass between Sundays are spent doing seemingly pointless work for the spread of the gospel. Therefore, some believers may view themselves as second-grade students.

Perhaps that is how some of the Colossians saw themselves. Paul pointed to a wrong view of daily work when he wrote, “Obey your earthly master in all things . . . with a sincere heart for the fear of the Lord” (Colossians 3:22).

If God's purposes in this world are to be fulfilled, then we need a structured society with all the essential activities. Our superiors are servants of the Lord Jesus Christ. Whether they know it or not, the people who employ us are carrying out God's good purposes. As long as the task given is not a sin or an unethical thing, then when we serve our superiors we are serving God.

So let us view our daily work-whatever it may be-as an extension of God's work in the world. Thus, we will find that there is no better place to spread the good news of salvation than the place where God has placed us -VCG
