There is no one on earth besides You (Psalm 73:25).
Health experts recommend that we drink at least two liters of water every day. Besides being able to reduce the risk of heart attacks, water also makes our skin healthy and shiny, and helps reduce weight. In fact we should drink more water when exercising or if we are in hot or dry temperatures. And even if we are not thirsty, we still have to drink water.
Our thirst for God is even more beneficial. In our time of spiritual drought, we will long to hear Him through His word, and we will seek a drop of knowledge of Him. When we exercise faith in new ways, then we will want to be close to Him and receive His strength. We will become more and more thirsty for God when we see the sins of those around us, or when we gain a new awareness of our own sins and need Him.
Spiritual thirst is a term used in Scripture. Asaph thirsts for answers in a psalm that contains questions. When he saw the happiness of the wicked, he cried out to God to know the reason (Psalm 73:16). He found God as his strength and realized that he desired nothing but Him (verses 25,26).
When we experience a spiritual thirst, then we can follow the example of Asaph and draw closer to God (verse 28). He will satisfy us, and make us more thirsty for Him. We will learn to desire Him more than anything. --AMC
