SLANG

To all men I have become all things, that I might by all means save some (1 Corinthians 9:22).

What do young people mean when they say they are "hanging out"? (They are busy and relaxing.) What if they ask for "doku"? (Meaning money.) If a young person likes the new clothes other people are wearing, he will say, "Cool," which means nice. Young people have their own slang that some of us may not understand and it seems that the language is always changing.

Believers in Jesus also have their own "slang". We use common jargon that non-believers may not understand. For example, we use the words grace, saved, and repentance. All of these words are nice words, but when we share our faith, it may be more helpful to say, "Free forgiveness from God" instead of grace. Or, "delivered from death and given eternal life" for the word saved. We can say, "turn from wrong things" to the word repentance.

The Apostle Paul was willing to be flexible in his ministry so that he could reach as many people as possible with the gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 9: 19-23). Perhaps that includes the words he used to describe the good news of Jesus' death and resurrection.

If we explain our faith in terms that are easy to understand, it will help other people to understand the meaning of being born again, which is being changed by the love and forgiveness of Jesus --AMC

IF WE HAVE THE WORD OF GOD IN OUR MIND
HE CAN PLAY THE RIGHT WORDS IN OUR Mouths
