CLUTCH AND ITS MEDICINE

Love is patient; love is generous; he is not jealous. He is not proud or arrogant (1Cor. 13: 4)

A man with mental illness always shook his pastor's hand every time the service was over. However, he frequently made such critical comments: Your sermon is too long. Your sermon is boring. You talk about yourself too much. Feeling depressed, the pastor conveyed this to a deacon, who replied, Oh, don't worry about him. He just repeats what he has heard from other people.

Grumbling is an all too common sin among Christians, and some of them are chronic grouches. They are skilled at spotting the faults of someone who is actively trying to serve God. And surely we all grumble.

The best remedy for this sinful habit is Christian love. It's easy to say, but hard to do. First, we must consciously want God's best for everyone. This love is patient, ... generous; he is not jealous. ... He is not immodest and is not self-seeking. He is not grumpy and does not keep the mistakes of others (1Corinthians 13: 4,5). Then, when we rely on God, we have to apply this attitude to our actions.

The next time you want to find fault with someone, resist that urge and try to do good for that person (Galatians 6:10). Do this faithfully, and in time you will recover from grumbling.-HVL
