I am the light of the world (John 8:12)
Jesus, the wandering rabbi of the city of Nazareth, declared that He is the light of the world. That is a powerful statement from a man who lived in the first century in Galilee, a small region of the Roman Empire. This city has neither a culture to be proud of nor any famous philosophers, acclaimed authors, or talented sculptors. Nor do we have any historical records that Jesus had any formal education.
More than that, Jesus lived before the invention of print, radio, television, and electronic mail. How can He expect His ideas to be spread throughout the world? All of His utterances are recorded in the memories of His followers. Then the Light of the world illuminates the darkness or so it seems.
Centuries later we still listen with amazement to the words of Jesus, who have been preserved in such a way by His Father. His word leads us out of darkness, and leads us to the light of God's truth; the word fulfills His promise, Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12).
I encourage you to read the words of Jesus in the Gospel. Think about it. Let those words sink into your mind and change your life. Then you will say like the people who lived in His time: Never before has a human spoken like that person! (John 7:46) VCG
BECAUSE JESUS IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
WE DON'T NEED TO BE IN THE DARK
