When that desire is fertilized, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is ripe, it gives birth to death (James 1:15)
Eve explained the rules to Satan, the tempter. According to God's rules, he and Adam could eat from any tree in the Garden of Eden, except for the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden. He said, just touching it could result in death.
I can imagine Satan turning his head away, and laughing mockingly saying, "You shall not die (Genesis 3:4). Then he deceived by saying that God hid the good things from Eve (verse 5).
For thousands of years, the enemy has repeated that strategy. He doesn't even care if you believe in the sovereignty of the Bible, as long as he can dissuade you from believing that what stands between you and God is sin.
You will never die, he said. That is the theme of many modern novels. The play lives in disobedience to God, but does not accept the consequences. In television shows and movies, the actors rebel against God's moral law but live happily ever after.
There is even a My sin (my sin) branded perfume. The scent is very tempting, attractive, and exciting, that's how the ad says, so the most suitable name for it is My Sin. You would never suspect that sin is a repulsive odor to God.
When temptation comes your way, will you believe Satan's lies? Or will you heed God's warning? HWR
