FAILED TO DO RIGHT

So, if a person knows how to do good, but he does not do it, he sins (James 4:17)

In his book Eight Men Out, Eliot Asinof chronicles the events that occurred in the infamous "Black Sox" scandal of 1919. Eight members of the Chicago White Sox baseball club were accused of accepting bribes from gamblers as compensation for losing world games. . Although never found guilty in court, the eight of them were banned from baseball for life.

But one of them, Buck Weaver, claimed that he had played for his club to win even though he knew of the conspiracy. Although Weaver's appearance on the field did support his statement, the Kenesaw Mountain Landis baseball commission made it a rule that anyone who knew about the scandal, but did not prevent it, would still be banned from playing. Weaver wasn't punished for doing wrong, but for failing to do right.

In his letter to first-century church members, James wrote, "If anyone knows how to do good, but does not do it, he is sinful" (James 4:17). In a world filled with evil and darkness, followers of Christ have the opportunity to shine a light. Often it means that we have to fight the urge to remain silent.

When we are faced with the choice to do good or do nothing, we must always choose to do the right thing -WEC

THE ONLY THAT CAN MAKE EVIL WIN IS
GOOD PEOPLE WHO DO NOTHING -Edmund Burke
