A mother cheetah brings a live young deer to her five-month-old cubs and then releases them. After the cubs have made several unsuccessful attempts, the mother takes over and shows them how to catch dinner.
I observed the same technique used by life insurance officers. After he explained the various benefits of a policy, he told how much protection he got for his family. His words took on new meaning because he showed by example how he himself properly insured his family.
If we want to teach others the art of knowing God and serving Him, we cannot ignore the importance and power of example. Thus Christ and His apostles communicated the same message. Their obedience to God is shown in everyday terms that are easy to understand.
Leadership that is done by example will be contagious. When Paul mentioned the Thessalonians, who had been imitators of us and of the Lord, he said that they had also been an example for all who believed in Macedonia and Achaia (1 Thessalonians 1:6,7).
Leadership is more than something that automatically goes hand in hand with official status like Father, Mother, Pastor, or Teacher. People who want to lead and help others must first set an example for MRD
