It is good to wait in silence for God's help (Lamentations 3:26)
Sadness and sorrow can balance life. Both of these impact at different levels in our lives.
Sometimes suffering is experienced by the entire population in one country. In 1994 we were shocked by the events that happened to Rwanda and Bosnia. And we are all affected by small incidents: accidents, illnesses, family problems, and financial difficulties. No matter how optimistic we are, suffering will surely come to us.
But there is another side to this. Even though the life we live is full of suffering, even though we are faced with the pressures of life and despair, instead of happiness or joy, we will not be left alone without hope.
This is because life is not simply something that happens by chance. Life has a spiritual dimension that is sustained by God's love, mercy, and grace.
Consider what happened in Lamentations 3:1-66, for example. ponder deeply; when the inhabitants of the city of Jerusalem experienced tribulation, they still had hope. In the midst of killing and despair because the city is facing attacks, the writer adds the best hope for the residents of the city to survive, namely: God's great love. To deal with suffering and sorrow, the author reveals about God's mercy, His loyal love, His goodness, and His salvation (Lamentations 3:22-26).
So fabulous! No matter how hard the suffering we may experience, we can be sure that God will not leave us without hope -- JDB
