THE SECRET OF LONG LIFE

Teach us to number our days in such a way, that we may have a wise heart (Psalm 90:12)

Some time ago, I read about an American named Arthur Reed who was 123 years old. Arthur's experiences were shocking. He married for the third time at the age of 92, he often walked 8 km when he was 100 years old, and was still able to pedal a bicycle until he was 110. He also continued to work until he was 116. When asked about the secret to his long life, he replied, "I created from good soil."

The writer of Psalm 90 says that everything that is done over the age of 70 is an exception. No matter how good the "soil" is used to shape us, in the end our bodies will also experience the same thing as plants that wither quickly, morning mist that quickly passes, and clouds that quickly disappear. Even the longest life is but a fleeting yesterday before the eternal God (Psalm 90:4). The psalmist longs for his readers to see how short our time on this earth is compared to eternity.

This warning should make us think about the secret of a truly long life--eternal life in heaven. By counting the days, by securing our salvation through faith in Christ and by living each day for Him.

Do not give up eternal life assuming that a long life on earth will give you plenty of time to prepare for eternity. Today is a day of salvation [MRD II]

WHAT WE KNIT NOW
WE WILL USE IN ETERNITY
