Some people are harmed by the sting of the scorching sun. Maybe they have allergies or maybe they have some disease. If such people are under the sun for a long time, they will experience body reactions that are clearly visible to the eye and painful.
To protect themselves, they wear wide-brimmed hats and clothing that covers their arms, legs and neck. In addition, they also wear a kind of cream that is rubbed on the skin to protect the exposed parts of the body and spend time in shaded places.
The same is true with Christians. We need spiritual protection to face the world's evil patterns. Its ruler, namely Satan, constantly bombards us with various trials and pressures. If we give up, then it will weaken the testimony of our lives and keep us away from God.
God himself has provided the protection we need. He stands between us and our enemies. He is our Rock and our sturdy Refuge (Psalm 144:1-2). But we can only use this protection by praying, reading and meditating on His word, having faith, thinking the right way, fellowshipping with other Christians, and relying completely on the power of the Holy Spirit. This self-discipline will enable us to face this world.
