SPIRITUAL HUNGRY

How sweet your promise is to my palate, more than honey to my mouth (Psalm 119:103)

Most of us live in countries where there is an abundance of food and people who do not go hungry. Therefore, we never know about the symptoms of hunger. At first, the victims could not get enough of the hope for food. However, with the passage of time, the body becomes weak, the mind dulls, and the desire for something edible decreases. That is the reality, people who are starving will reach a breaking point, when they don't even want the food that is put in front of them.

Spiritual hunger is like that too. If we eat God's Word every day, we will naturally feel "hungry" if we don't have quiet time. However, if we continue to ignore it, we can lose the desire to study the Scriptures. And, we starve ourselves.

How much time do you spend reading the Bible and meditating on its truths? Do you feel lost in God's Word when you ignore it? Thomas Guthrie wrote, "If you love a pleasure more than your prayers, a book more than the Bible, a person more than Christ, or a hobby more than the hope of heaven--beware."

If you lose your desire to eat the "bread of life," admit your negligence and ask God to rekindle your appetite for God's Word. Avoid spiritual hunger! [RWD]
