Your promise has been tested and Your servant loves it (Psalm 119:140)
During an excavation in Jerusalem, Gabriel Barkay, an archaeologist, found a small copper scroll with Bible verses written on it. This part of the Bible has become brittle and has faded with age. Barkay takes it to the lab and there he examines it very slowly and carefully so as not to damage it.
Dating to about 400 B.C., the scroll contains the earliest Hebrew inscription for God's Name, Yahweh (or Yehovah). It seems that the writer who copied the manuscript did not dare to write down that word because it was too sacred. Even earlier Jewish writers often felt unworthy to write down the word, because of their reverence for the sacred name of God.
The Bible is the holy, powerful and perfect word of God. We should treat the word with the same care as Barkay did when he found that part of the Bible, and respect it the same as the copyists of the book when writing the name of God. The word comes to us from the heart of God. Therefore, we must guard it with sincerity, by "preaching the word of truth" (2Timothy 2:15). We must respect every word of God's word. Using Bible verses out of context, just for personal gain or to justify our own opinion, is an act that disrespects God and glorifies His name.
Let us always carry the word of God carefully -- DCE
