ACID GAS

Sorrow is better than laughter, for a gloomy face makes the heart glad (Ecclesiastes 7:3)

Acid gas or nitrous oxide, used to reduce pain during surgery. This gas renders the patient immune to pain, thus having a pleasurable effect on them. Patients who are under the influence of these chemicals will usually sing or laugh hysterically before finally losing self-awareness.

A false human heart can also cause a person to become immune to the influence of sin which offers all the beauty and comfort that is only apparent. Even though it will give the impression of cheerfulness and determination, a heart that looks happy actually reflects prolonged sorrow.

Such a situation is described by the writer of the book of Ecclesiastes. He explained that like the sound of thorns burning under a pan, such is the sign of the destruction of the wicked. Their joy only reflects their stubbornness and the certainty of their end (Ecclesiastes 7:1-6). They ignore the sanctity of life and the certainty of God's punishment for their transgressions.

Are you also reluctant to admit your mistakes before God and prefer to have fun all the time by seeking the fleeting pleasures of life? If so, as Ecclesiastes says, you need to visit a “funeral home” (Ecclesiastes 7:2,4) and confess your helplessness and sinful state. Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ so that you may receive eternal salvation. Thus, true joy will replace vain laughter -- MRD II

WE CAN LEARN MORE FROM SORROW THAN JOY
