RUSTY MEMORIES

But solid food is for those who have senses trained to discern good from evil (Hebrews 5:14)

Leonardo da Vinci's contribution to art, science, and engineering ranks him as one of the greatest geniuses in world history. Whether he is drawing an airplane or painting the Mona Lisa, his memory is vivid, discerning and creative. He is credited with making the following comment regarding maintaining sharp memory: "Iron rusts with disuse; stagnant water loses its purity; ... likewise without work one's memory weakens."

We can also experience stagnation in our Christian life. This is what happened to the recipients of the book of Hebrews. The inspired author could see the symptoms and knew how to cure them. "Solid food is for mature men, who have senses trained to discern good from evil" (Hebrews 5:14).

The word "trained" comes from the Greek word gymnasium. This word relates to our image of disciplined sports. The Christian life is a life that grows in knowledge so that we can learn to choose the right path. And we do that by looking at the word of God.

Read the Bible with renewed vigor and ask God to give you new insights into your relationship with Him and with other people. Try to always maintain your spiritual health --HDF
