HERITAGE

For me there is no greater joy than hearing that my children live in truth (3 John 1:4)

His career as an author spanned thirty years, from the mid-1960s to the mid-1990s. He wrote 12 books and received 16 honorary doctorate awards. However, three years before her death from cancer in 1996, a well-known humorist, Erma Bombeck, told an ABC TV interviewer that regardless of the number of articles she wrote, her best legacy was her three children. "If I can't raise them well," he said, "then everything I do doesn't really matter."

Bombeck has wealth and fame and is loved by millions of readers. However, he realized that his first priority was caring for his children.

Although no parent can guarantee that their child will become a model citizen with faith, as parents we must try to have an attitude like Erma's. Our motivation is to meet the physical, mental and emotional needs of our children. They are our inheritance.

This means we must introduce them to the Savior, provide spiritual guidance (Psalm 34:12-15), pray for them, and encourage them to find wise mentors who can help them live a godly Christian life.

Yes, this is an uphill battle. Often it even takes a lot of time and requires a lot of sacrifice. However, the value of a child far exceeds all of them --JDB
