O God, You have taught me since I was a child, and until now I preach Your wonderful deeds (Psalm 71:17)
This article is intended for people who are starting to enter old age. However, for those of you who are still young, keep reading this article, because you too are heading for those "golden years".
As we get older, we need God's help to recognize the weaknesses and temptations that usually come in old age. Old age is indeed a dangerous time. It's no surprise, then, that the writer of Psalm 71 prayed for protection in old age (Read it first, if you haven't already.)
While visiting Florida, I came across an article in the church bulletin that said:
A Prayer When I Get Older
"God, you know I'm getting old now! Don't let me close my eyes to this fact. Don't let me be a bother in this life, especially with my ego that always wants to talk about many things, at every opportunity. Let me rest so I don't think about it anymore." past experiences that always recur in my mind and the endless details of my life path. Lock my lips so I don't complain about my pain and suffering. I don't ask for a better memory, but please don't let others look down on me because of my reduced memory. Teach me I have to admit that sometimes I'm also wrong. Make me more beautiful and mature as I get older. Don't let me just get older. I hope I can say, 'though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day' (2Corinthians 4:16)."
