MEASURABLE LIFE

Teach us to number our days in such a way, that we may have a wise heart (Psalm 90:12)

The root word for counting in Psalm 90:12 is "measure" or "weigh." Yes, we must place our days in a state of balance between the things that please God and those that are a blessing to others.

When the great painter Raphael died at the age of 37, friends and family carried his last unfinished painting, The Transfiguration, to the funeral. His family considers the painting to be a symbol of worldly ideals that cannot be achieved because of the limited time he has to live to achieve them.

This half-finished picture also conveys another message to all of us, namely that: life is just an instant, death can come suddenly. We should treasure every hour as a gift of great value and put it to good use.

If we realize how precious the days are, we will try to make the most of them. In order not to be disappointed at the end of our lives, and to find happiness in heaven, we must use the time we have wisely (Ephesians 5:15-16). With the psalmist, let us pray together: "Teach us to number our days in such a way that we may have a wise heart" (Psalm 90:12) -- HGB

RATHER THAN JUST COUNTING THE DAYS, MAKE OUR DAYS PRECIOUS
