Russell Nagy's moving choral song “The Promise” contains these words:
On a lonely night,
veiled in mortal body
veiled in mortal body
He who made mountains -the mountain
took its first breath.
took its first breath.
Away from human sight,
the promise is never forgotten
the promise is never forgotten
In love born
to conquer death.
to conquer death.
The amazing thing about Christmas is that the Creator of the mountains takes His first breath as a baby. He who created the universe took on human form in order to save us. The Incarnation is an amazing combination of who descended from heaven to earth, how He arrived, and why He came. “For in Him all things were created. . . . He is before all things and all things are in Him. . . . For all the fullness of God pleased to dwell in him, and through him he reconciled all things to himself, … after he made atonement through the blood of the cross of Christ” (Colossians 1:16-20).
When Jesus took his first breath on earth, the promise of God the Father's love was fulfilled. The baby Christ whom the angels announced and announced by the shepherds had come to die.
The Baby in the manger is “the image of the invisible God, the firstborn … of all creation” (v. 15), “in whom we have our redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (v. 14).
Let's praise Him! - DCM
