But He, having offered just one sacrifice for sin, He sits forever at the right hand of God (Hebrews 10:12)
What do you think of when you hear the word “sacrifice”? We might use the term when we see parents who manage their finances tightly, and only use old cars to send their children to college. It's also an apt term to describe the selfless act of a soldier willing to defuse an active grenade, even at the risk of an explosion, to save the lives of his comrades.
However, such a noble sacrifice pales in comparison to the Savior's sacrifice for us on the cross. His sacrifice was unique. Jesus suffered and died “for all our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2). Because of His death and resurrection, all who accept His offer of salvation will receive forgiveness and eternal life (John 3:16).
In the book of Hebrews chapter 10, the Bible talks about animal sacrifices in the Old Testament and compares it to the death of Jesus. Verse 4 states, "Because it is not possible for the blood of a bull or a ram to take away sins". All these sacrifices show the importance of Christ's death.
The sacrifice of Jesus Christ that replaced all the animal sacrifices, provides full salvation for all who believe in Him. Hallelujah, for the glorious Savior! --Herb Vander Lugt
