BAD GIFT

Similarly, there will be false teachers among you. They will include heretical teachings that destroy, even they will deny the Lord who has redeemed them (2Peter 2:1)

A couple in New York City received two tickets to a Broadway show in the mail. Surprisingly, the gift arrived without a single message, and they had no idea who had sent it. But they still attended the show and enjoyed it immensely.

When they returned to the apartment, they found that their room had been rummaged around. Their expensive fur coats and jewelery were gone. On a pillow lay a small simple note "Now you know who I am."

Like the nameless thief, false prophets know what God's people want and are interested in (2 Peter 2:1-22). He doesn't wear badges to warn people he's being lied to, but he disguises himself as a representative of the truth. He said that he would enrich lives, but that those who followed him often had to pay a heavy price, because they had been deceived.

Unlike Jesus. He is a Prophet that we can trust absolutely. He offers us eternal life because He truly loves us. Accepting His gift of salvation is the first step to protecting ourselves from the deceptive "gifts" offered by false prophets.

Even Christians can still be deceived by false teachings. That is why the word of God urges us to study the Bible (2Peter 2:2), test what we hear (1John 4:1), and grow in faith (2Peter 1:5-9). That way we can avoid a messy spiritual life -- HWR
