Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1)
God often "makes" a hero out of ordinary people, even the most unexpected. One of them was Angie Garber. He was born with a badly damaged face. Surgeons tried to correct his appearance, causing one ear to become deaf.
At the age of ten, Angie contracted polio. He was safe, but for months had to undergo painful therapy and exercises to strengthen his weak left leg and arm. During this difficult time, his mother fell ill. Angie and a brother cared for her mother until she died.
Her brother George, who had done more to encourage Angie than anyone else, died in an accident. And then the failed harvest forced him to sell the family farm.
But through all these events, Angie continues to pray that one day she can serve God as a missionary by profession as a teacher. God granted her wish, and about five years after her mother's death, Angie began her ministry as a teacher through the Navajo Mission. He became a Christian worker so used by God that two books have been written about him. Right now her radiant face reflected the joy in her heart. Angie faces tremendous obstacles on her journey of faith. However, like the heroes listed in Hebrews 11:1-40, he continued to believe in God.
