After Jesus drank the sour wine, he said, "It is finished" (John 19:30).
Many human hopes and dreams are sometimes not fulfilled. A composer named Franz Schubert died leaving his work Unfinished Symphony (Unfinished Symphony). A similar incident was experienced by the prolific writer Charles Dickens who was unable to develop the plot of his novel entitled The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Of course, we also have many aspirations that have not been fulfilled until now. However, how blessed we are to know that our work of redemption was totally and completely completed by Jesus on the cross.
Jesus' last utterance, "It is Finished," actually consisted of only one word in the original (John 19:30). However, the word has a broad meaning. What Jesus said before His death could mean "Complete!" or "End!". The cry from above the cross declared that not only his suffering was over, but also that his eternal work of redemption had been completed. All that had been done while He lived as a human, was over. Done!
We cannot do anything to add anything to His sacrifice. Christ's self-giving death was enough. We just stretch out our empty hands with full faith, then God in His glory will give us eternal life.
Have you reached out in faith to receive His gift? -VCG
