Then David got up from the floor, ... went into the house of the Lord and bowed down and worshiped (2Samuel 12:20)
Children are fun and innocent—before their parents say no to their request. When that happens, some children will scream uncontrollably, pushing for what they want.
When our children were young, my wife and I thought that they needed to learn to accept no as an answer to their requests. We feel this will help them deal with life's disappointments more effectively. We pray that it will also help them submit to God's will.
Today’s Bible reading records David’s confession of his wrongdoing before Nathan. David was forgiven, but God allowed the consequences of his sin to be borne by a baby conceived out of wedlock. David fasted and prayed day and night for his son's recovery. Despite her sincere request, the baby died.
Instead of being like the children who whined and were angry with God, David got up from the floor, bathed, changed his clothes, and "went into the house of the Lord and worshiped" (2 Samuel 12:20). His actions teach us one important thing: Sometimes we have to accept the word no from God in answer to our petitions.
In times of trouble or loss, we must seek God's help and deliverance. But we must still trust Him even if He doesn't answer our prayers according to our will.
