The eye is not satisfied with seeing, the ear is not satisfied with hearing (Ecclesiastes 1: 8)
Someone came to the travel agency and said he wanted to go sailing. "Where to?" so he asked. "I don't know," he replied. Then the travel agent suggested that he take a moment to pay attention to the large globe that was in the room. He looked around for a while, then desperately asked, "Is this all you have to offer?"
The world we live in contains many interesting things. Despite the things of sin, we can and should enjoy those pleasures. The delicious food eaten with fellowship friends can warm our hearts. The beauty of nature will inspire and fill our minds with awe. Beautiful music can refresh our souls. And work can make us whole people.
In this sin-cursed world, we can even find joy. But the pursuit of such pleasures cannot lead to full and lasting satisfaction.
In fact, people who live only for the pursuit of self-gratification, no matter how high their achievements, will always want something more. Even if they have gulped down the sources of worldly pleasures, their thirst will not be quenched. Therefore, they had to agree with Solomon that “everything is vanity and a pursuit of the wind” (Ecclesiastes 2:17).
Only by living for Jesus Christ can we find true satisfaction --Richard W. De Haan
