TOO Ambitious

The Son of Man also did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45)

If you are familiar with the works of William Shakespeare, you will know Macbeth as one of the characters in his work. Macbeth wanted so badly to be king that he committed murder, and he had to pay for it with his life.

We will become like that tragic character if we allow ambition to fill our minds, thus eventually forgetting who is really in control of our lives. We may not use evil means to achieve our goals, but we allow ambition to cloud our minds about God's sovereignty. Instead of leaving all problems in His hands, we solve them ourselves.

Another example of excessive ambition is found in the conversation between James and John with Jesus in Mark 10. They aim to occupy positions of highest honor and power in the Kingdom of Heaven. And impatient to wait and see if Jesus would bestow the honor on them, they boldly asked for it. They were so impatient to put all matters into His hands.

Ambition is not always wrong. But when ambition so fills the mind that we can't wait for God, then we show a lack of faith as the disciples did.
When we surrender all our goals and desires to God, we can be sure that He will give the best for us --Dave Branon
