DESIRE IS THE WORD OF GOD

How sweet are your promises to my palate, more than honey to my mouth ! (Psalm 119: 103)

Bible. How deeply do you know and understand it? Does this question seem redundant? Do you feel it's too late to take it seriously?

Meditate on the story of Cyrus. Even though his parents were Christian, Cyrus didn't open the Bible very often. He is more interested in reading Shakespeare and history books. By the age of 12, he had mapped out the entire human civilization. However, the Bible? He had no interest in touching her.

Cyrus grew up to be a respected lawyer. When he was 36, a friend came to his office and asked why he had not become a Christian. The conversation with his friend led him to believe in Jesus Christ.

When he realized that he knew almost nothing about the Bible, Cyrus was determined to study God's word more than anything else. Before long, the Bible became “more than honey” to him (Psalm 119:103). Thirty years later, in 1909, his book The Scofield Reference Bible was published. Cyrus Ingerson Scofield's great job is done.

Should we give up everything in our lives and spend all our time studying the Bible? Of course not. However, we must realize that constant study of God's word is very important for our growth as Christians. Through the Bible, we know what God expects of us, and we can get to know God himself--Dave Branon
