AMAZING !

They were all amazed and glorified God (Mark 2:12)

When Jesus healed a lame man as proof of His power to forgive human sins, the people who witnessed the event were amazed. Then they "glorified God, saying, 'We have never seen anything like this'" (Mark 2:12). More than twelve times in Mark's gospel, we read of people who reacted similarly to Jesus' words and ministry

The word translated as "amazed" or "astonished", in the original language has a meaning "to fall into a state of shock or fear, or both". Sometimes we may feel the same way when we meet Jesus Christ through reading God's word. Like His disciples, we may wonder when we read Jesus' words, "How hard it is for a bearer to enter into the kingdom of God" (Mark 10:23). We often think that by having a lot of money, all our problems will be solved.

Those who saw a man released from possession of a legion of evil spirits were also amazed (Mark 5:20). Why are they surprised? Did they think that the man was unreachable by God's saving power? Do we have the same thoughts when God saves certain people?

Jesus is not bound by our limitations or expectations. He speaks and acts with power and wisdom far beyond our comprehension. With respect and admiration, let us listen to the words of Jesus and seek His mighty hands to transform --David McCasland
