He himself has given help to many, as well as to me (Romans 16: 2)
One of Deitz's paintings, entitled "Unknown", depicts a crew of four mechanics repairing a bomber. They were deep below the decks of aircraft carriers, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean during World War II. The four pale, serious-faced men covered in grease were working hard to repair the plane so they could return to the battlefield.
Maybe we too are doing an invisible task in supporting the church's mission to spread the gospel and grow the faith of the congregation. Without many volunteers, no church or missionary agency can carry out its ministry effectively.
When the Apostle Paul concluded his letter to the Romans, he wrote down several names that are not mentioned elsewhere in the Bible. For example, Paul mentions Phoebe and says that she "gave help to many" (verse 16:2). Phoebe and several others, have been a very important part in the life and ministry of the early church.
Do you work "under the deck"? Remember, your service for Christ is very important. Even if no one shows appreciation for your hard work, rest assured that one day God Himself will reward you (Colossians 3:23,24) --Dave Egner
