We now have a great High Priest, who has passed through all the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God (Hebrews 4:14)
A pastor is preaching to a large congregation. He emphasized that being a believer does not mean being free from problems. In fact, some Christians are surrounded by problems; problems on the right, on the left, in front, or behind. In response, a man who had served the Lord for many years exclaimed, "Praise be to God, for the upper side is always open!"
This man's belief in God is very much in line with Hebrews 4. Since our High Priest, namely Jesus the Son of God, has ascended to heaven and interceded for us, we have a sure basis for trusting Him in the midst of various problems ( verse 14). Jesus can share our weaknesses because during His life on earth, He was tempted in every way just like us, but He did not sin (verse 15). We can approach His throne which is called “the throne of grace” (verse 16).
In the book of Hebrews, we are encouraged to look upward through the trials we face, and to boldly approach the throne by faith. Through humble prayer, we will receive grace to overcome all our failures, and grace to receive help in time (verse 16).
Do life's trials and tribulations make you doubt? Does temptation state that there is no way out for you? Be patient, and keep looking up because the top is always open! --Joanie Yoder
