I thank you for my great and wonderful deeds (Psalm 139: 14)
Many people try to fight the aging process. People with wrinkles have skin tightening, while others have injections to remove unwanted facial lines. Behind all these trends, there is a notion that old faces are unacceptable.
However, not everyone feels that way. On a television show, an old woman was asked, "Do you like your face?" The woman replied confidently, "I really like my face! It is a God-given face, and I accept it with joy."
In Psalm 139, David expresses the conviction that his whole existence was designed by God, so it is worthy of gratitude. He prayed, "I thank Thee for my mighty and miraculous deeds" (verse 14). He also believed that God planned the days of his life (verse 16).
Instead of struggling in a futile battle against the aging process, we should focus on improving our spiritual qualities because that is what is eternal. One of the keys is lifelong faith in God, who assures His people, "Until your old age I am He, and until your hair is white I will carry you" (Isaiah 46:4).
Myron Taylor wrote, "Time can make the skin wrinkle, but worry, doubt, hatred, and the loss of purpose in life will wrinkle our souls." If we accept the past years with gratitude, God will remove the wrinkles from our souls --Joanie Yoder
