FORGETTING WORRY

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything make your desires known to God (Philippians 4:6)

Perhaps you have participated in an experiment in which you were given a [word group] phrase such as "red car," and then asked to forget the phrase. But the harder you try to forget, the more the phrase sticks in your mind. This experiment shows how we can never forget something that is at the center of our minds.

Likewise with anxiety, which is our natural response when worrying about things in life. Most of us have trouble sleeping because we are trying too hard to solve a complex problem at hand. As a result, the problem is even more firmly gripped our minds.

The Bible asks us not to be overwhelmed by the problems of this life, but to leave them all to God. The Apostle Peter said, "Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5: 7). Similarly in Philippians 4: 6, the Apostle Paul gives a similar command.

Jesus asked His disciples not to worry about the necessities of life, for “Your Father who is in heaven knows that you need these things” (Matthew 6:32).

The way to forget worries is to focus our minds on the goodness and loving care of a loving God, not on the issues that trouble us. Then we can say as did the psalmist, "When my thoughts are many, your consolation rejoices my soul" (Psalm 94:19) -DCM

THE MORE YOU THINK OF GOD'S GOODNESS THE
LESS YOUR WORRIES
