THREE GUARANTEES

O death where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? (1 Corinthians 15:55)

While I was outside the ICU waiting for the condition of someone I loved to change, I was reminded that death will come to all of us: young and old, male and female, poor and rich.

In 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul comforts those who feel lost because of the death of a loved one. He told them that too much sadness did nothing. It is natural for us to cry because of loss, but we must not cry like hopeless people. Instead, we must hold on to the three certainties of death.

The first certainty is that the human soul never dies. The soul of the believer abides in the Lord (verse 14). Those who die leave this troubled world to "die in Jesus".

Second, Jesus will come for believers; both living and dead believers. Jesus will return for His children (verses 16,17).

Third, there will be a joyous reunion. "Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord (verse 17).

Knowing the three certainty of death, then believers who have lost a loved one will be greatly comforted. Although we are temporarily separated from them, we will meet again in the presence of Allah --AL
