[God] who made the sandy beach a boundary for the sea (Jeremiah 5:22)
Not a year goes by without a natural disaster causing chaos somewhere in this world. Floods, storms and tsunamis destroy lives, homes and livelihoods.
No one argues that the sea has the "right" to encroach on the defined boundaries and crash into the shoreline. In fact, everyone agrees that disaster will occur if the sea violates the coastline. God himself has "made the shore of sand a border to the sea" (Jeremiah 5:22).
God also sets limits for human behavior. Yet, not a day goes by without countless violations of His commandments. And, it all causes physical and spiritual damage. Surprisingly, we often argue that we have the "right" to violate these boundaries.
In the days of the prophet Jeremiah, God's people had also transgressed. They use deception to get rich and refuse to defend the poor (5: 27,28). The result is disaster. God said, "Your sins hinder the good from you" (verse 25).
In every creation of God, there is an order that has been inherent from the beginning. To break the order means to bear the consequences attached to that transgression. God in His goodness, lovingly and in an easy-to-understand way, communicates the challenge to us so that we can avoid its consequences. Knowing and staying within the limits He has set is a wise move --JAL
