PEOPLE WITHOUT NAME

God's mercy, our Savior, and His love for humanity are evident (Titus 3:4)

Years ago, I received a tubular parcel in the mail. The parcel contained Jim Schaaf's exquisite bamboo fishing rods and Bill Ballan's classic fishing rods -- expensive, unaffordable fishing gear. There was a handwritten note that read, "I want to do something for you." To this day, I don't know who sent the parcel.

The poet William Cowper also had a friend whom he did not know and sent him gifts, but never mentioned his name. Cowper's comment every time he received a gift was always the same, "An unknown person has arrived." I often think of his words when fishing with that rod, "An unknown person has come." I am always grateful to a friend whose name I do not know for his kindness and love.

Throughout life, God pours out His goodness-truth, beauty, friendship, love, and laughter, and more. And, we act as if we don't know where it came from. God has become our unknown Friend.

However, He did not want to remain unknown forever. If you want to know more about your secret Friend, read the Bible, for He was most evident in Jesus. Love is always in God's heart, but in Jesus, love is "visible." God, revealed in Jesus, is your kind and loving Friend. Will you acknowledge Him and thank Him today? --DHR
