Train yourself to worship (1Timothy 4: 7)
When athlete Dean Karnazes completed the 42-kilometer New York Marathon in November 2006, it marked the end of a near-impossible endurance show. Karnazes has run 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days. These ultra-rare athletes' displays of ultra-endurance include: running 563 kilometers non-stop, 24-hour non-stop mountain biking and swimming across San Francisco Bay. This level of physical fitness requires disciplined training that must be done continuously.
Spiritual well -being, Paul told Timothy, also demands more than just taking a relaxed approach to living a life that honors God. In a culture marked by false teaching and accompanied by extreme forms of self-gratification and self-denial, Paul wrote, "Train yourselves to worship. Physical exercise is of limited use, but worship is useful in all things, because it contains promises, both for this life and for life. which is to come ”(1 Timothy 4: 7,8).
Our bodies and minds must be turned to God and prepared to serve Him (Romans 12:1,2). The goal is not spiritual greatness, but worship, a life that pleases God. Intense study of the word, focused prayer, and body discipline are part of this process.
How well we practice largely determines how well we live this arena of life --DCM
